Description of Duties
Under the general supervision of the Operations Manager, acts as a liaison between the corporation and other municipalities regarding the fire hydrants in the system. Responsible for performing all maintenance of fire hydrants including (but not limited to) lubrication, flow, painting, and vegetation clearance. Responsible for staying abreast of current legislation and laws as they pertain to fire hydrants. Collects pertinent hydrant data through office and field investigation to become a permanent record within the GIS database (hydrant number, manufacturer, model, connection, year, valve opening size, depth, location, etc.) Responsible for the operation of distribution and transmission valves to ensure proper position and operation. Works to resolve customer complaints and problems, as well as any issues reported by local fire departments. Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs; Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures. A self-starting individual who possesses high school diploma or G.E.D and an Associate’s Degree from an accredited school in business or a related discipline. Relevant on-the-job work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement. Must possess a current Texas Driver License be insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter. Knowledge of all current laws and regulations regarding fire hydrants is necessary. Must be willing to work towards successful attainment of a Certificate of Competency from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for Water Operator D and Customer Service Inspector, and then to maintain certification thereafter. PC literacy and knowledge of spreadsheet and word processing software are required. Must have demonstrated problem solving skills. Must be fluent in English (written and verbal). Flexibility, professionalism, ability to work in a highly stressful environment, and perform a variety of tasks with numerous interruptions is essential. Attention to detail and a high degree of mental concentration are required. Good organizational, interpersonal and communications (oral and written) skills are required in order to effectively communicate with employees, management, and the board of directors as needed is required. Problem solving and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential. Must be able to occasionally lift/move up to 50 lbs., and frequently lift/move up to 25 lbs. Position requires the employee to travel to various worksites to review right of way and easement issues on a daily basis. Must be fluent (verbal and written) in English.Application
