Description of Duties
Responsible for the installation of new meters, removal of meters that are not working or are delinquent, for maintenance on existing meters, and for testing meters to ensure that they are registering properly. Will perform new customer box installations, as well as removal of old boxes. Repairs small leaks at the water meters, and notifies management of any larger issues or problems observed at the meter site. Cleans and tests water meters following American Water Works Association (AWWA) standards, manufacturer recommendations, and company policy. Uses radio read meters to retrieve reading information. Responsible for light maintenance to any company assigned vehicle, keeping the vehicle clean inside and out, etc. Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs; Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures. A self-starting individual who possesses a High School diploma or G.E.D. Must be able to read, write, and follow written instructions. Must possess a current Texas Driver License and must be insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter. Must be willing to work towards the attainment of a Class D Water Operator license with 12 months of hire as well as a Customer Service Inspector license within 36 months of hire from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ). Will be required to complete medical physical examinations (post-hire) as required for license recertification, respirator use, or any other job requirements. Must have good communications skills, in order to comprehend instructions, create correspondence and reports, and to effectively communicate with customers and employees of the Corporation. Must be fluent in English (written and verbal). Basic mathematics skills are required (addition and subtraction of two digit numbers / multiplication and division by tens and hundreds) when calculating for reading and testing purposes. Must possess good judgment as well as exercise discretion in the performance of daily duties. Must be able to work a flexible work schedule between 7:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. during the workweek, must be available to work weekends if/when needed, and must be on call 24 hours a day. Position requires the employee to occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. May occasionally be exposed to extreme heat or cold weather conditions. Position requires the ability to stand, walk, sit, stoop, crouch, crawl, climb, reach, and balance. Must have the ability to frequently lift items up to 25 pounds and/or move items up to 50 pounds. Vision abilities required for this position include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and the ability to adjust focus. The noise level associated with this position is generally loud. Must be bilingual (verbal and written) in both English and Spanish.Preferences
Prior experience as a Meter Reader with a water supply corporation or utility is preferred. A current and valid Customer Service Inspector license with TCEQ is preferred.Application
