Description of Duties
Responsible assisting with the collection of water samples from all water facilities and possibly rivers, reservoirs, pipelines, drinking water, etc. and for documenting the collected samples prior to distributing them to various laboratories for analyses. Sampling performed would include, but would not be limited to: DPB, TOC, ITE, LT2, Lead and Copper, TTHM’s, and Coliform. Responsible for ensuring that all collected samples are valid and representative, based upon departmental policies and procedures as well as state and federal guidelines. Assists in the reporting of field judgements regarding potential trouble sites in the sampling system, and enacts measures for maintenance of sample sites. Coordinates with customers and laboratories to resolve problems with sample identification and required testing. Works closely with the Distribution Sample Operator II and the department heads to coordinate the required sampling for regulatory requirements. Responsible for assisting with the submission of all correspondence to the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) regarding sampling procedures, schedules, and the creating and maintenance of all sampling plans. Must stay apprised of all regulatory requirements and impending changes in regulations as it pertains to the sampling program. Accurately completes all required sample chain of custody forms, sample documentation, etc. Interacts with residents as needed to communicate the need for the sampling work being performed. Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs; Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures. A self-starting individual who possesses a High School Diploma or G.E.D and a valid Texas driver license. Must be insurable by the Corporation’s insurance underwriter. Must be willing to work towards successful attainment of a Certificate of Competency from the Texas Commission on Environmental Quality (TCEQ) for Grade D Water and Customer Service Inspector within twelve months of hire, and then work towards attainment of Grade C Water, and is required to maintain certification thereafter. Must be willing to become current with the following schools: Unit I Water, Utility Safety, Unit V Water Distribution, Unit IV Surface, and Water Laboratory. Strong communication skills are required in order to effectively present information to customers, employees, and/or management of the Corporation. Must be fluent in English (written and verbal). Must possess good judgment as well as exercise discretion in the performance of daily duties. Must be able to work a flexible and rotating work schedule during the workweek and occasional weekends and have the ability to be on call 24 hours a day. Position may require the handling of various chemicals such as chlorine, alum, ammonia, lime, and other acids and reagents. May be exposed to wet and/or humid conditions as well as toxic or caustic chemicals. Will be exposed to weather conditions where exposure to extreme cold, extreme heat, risk of electrical shock, and vibration may exist. It is recommended to obtain immunization against Diphtheria, Tetanus, Hepatitis A, and Hepatitis B.Preferences
