Accounting Specialist

Description of Duties

Responsible for preparing general ledger monthly account reconciliations for various balance sheet accounts (excluding fixed assets), and updating revenue and expense tracking schedules.  Conducts various month-end journal entry preparation including but not limited to, customer billing, receipts and adjustments, accounts payable month-end accruals, and general ledger review adjustments.  Assists in the development and maintenance of activity reports on an ongoing basis for water customer billings, waste water customer billings, cash receipts by type, and loan / note payable schedules.  Assists the Controller with special projects as needed.  Participates in job specific training, and other various required corporate training programs.  Complies with federal and state regulations and all established corporate policies and procedures.  Other duties as may be assigned.

Job Requirements

A self-starting individual who possesses an Associate degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university.  At least three years prior accounting experience is required.  Prior relevant work experience may be substituted for the degree requirement.  Strong experience with general ledger, month-end close, account analysis, and account reconciliation is required.   Must possess good written and oral communication, organizational and interpersonal skills.  Problem solving and the ability to prioritize tasks are essential.  Must have strong working knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel.  Visual and mental concentration are necessary for accurately performing tasks, working at a computer for long periods of time in a fast-paced environment and handling frequent interruptions.  Must be able to occasionally lift boxes of 10 – 25 pounds in weight.  Position requires extended periods of sitting in front of a computer which may result in visual eye strain.

Preferences

A Bachelor Degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline from an accredited college or university is preferred.
